Christina Shrewsbury is a production and set designer whose designs focus on making spaces that feel authentic and emotionally engaging, offering audiences an opportunity to step into rich, dynamic settings. Specializing in period pieces, Christina's passion for truth, dignity, and beauty forms the foundation of her design philosophy.
Having grown up between the Riverdale section of the Bronx, Washington Heights, and Point Pleasant, NJ, Christina's multicultural background and eclectic upbringing have deeply influenced her artistic lens. Her father, a Vietnam veteran, former rock singer and artist, and her mother, a singer from the Dominican Republic, instilled in her a love for creativity, storytelling, and pushing boundaries. Her upbringing left her with a fascination for the beauty in both the mundane and the extraordinary—elements that are ever-present in her work.
While Christina has a particular passion for historical and fantastical settings, her interests extend to world-building in all forms. She excels at crafting spaces that invite exploration, whether it’s a grand palace, an otherworldly landscape, or an intimate home. A commitment to research, texture, and color is at the core of her design process, ensuring that each environment feels lived-in and fully realized.
Collaboration is central to Christina’s work. Driven by a holistic belief in the symbiosis of set, costume, and lighting, Christina’s approach to spatial dramaturgy creates immersive, dynamic worlds where audiences can lose themselves. Her goal is to create spaces that feel as vibrant and emotionally rich as the characters who inhabit them, blending practical design with imaginative world-building to make every environment a vital part of the narrative. When not designing, she is doting on her two beloved cats, Olive and Prosciutto!
